Dust is committed to standards-based Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), and participates in a variety of standards organizations and alliances to promote the development and use of standards-based WSN.

The SmartMesh network architecture is based on Dust’s pioneering work on Time Synchronized Mesh Protocol (TSMP). TSMP is a full networking stack that includes a Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) Media Access Layer (MAC), and is compatible with the IEEE 2.4 GHz 802.15.4 2006 radio standard. TSMP is a foundational building block of the IEC 62591 (WirelessHART) international wireless standard as well as the recently released ISA100.11a standard from the International Society of Automation. TSCH is now being integrated into the emerging IEEE 802.15.4E standard, which is expected to be ratified in 2011.
